Cat 116: Census from Khotan

This early ninth-century Khotanese register lists men and their duties. They work in the ‘Six Villages’ — the area around Dandan-Uiliq in north Khotan — except for one who is in Tibet, and another who has gone to the Inner Fort to sell cloth. Several are listed as absent, including five from the 'Young King' and five who have defected. The document originally formed part of an archive containing records of officials from the Six Villages area. In the time of the Tibetan occupation of Khotan, there are several documents recording desertions of Khotanese soldiers and support staff.
